These are probably my favorite photos from a family outing we went on a couple of weeks ago. Lily does love to push buttons! :)
We went for a tour of the USS Midway. It was a little pricey, but worth doing at least once. It was an interesting way to spend the day as a family. We went all over the ship and even ate lunch on board.
Lily had fun climbing into everything she could. She tried out the bunks.--
--These were the roomier ones. I wish I'd gotten a photo of the triple decker ones. You could not sit up and the mattresses were less than 2 inches thick with metal locker space underneath. You had to lift up the mattress and a thin metal sheet under the mattress to get to it. Seriously gave me a new respect for the sacrifices of our servicemen! --Not that they don't do a lot worse, but this was just everyday normal working and living conditions!
There were some huge fans in some areas and I wondered if they'd been there for the servicemen or added for the museum. It would have been unbearably hot without them! This was probably the most comfortable of the enclosed areas of the ship because of these port holes:
To go all over the ship there was a lot of stair climbing! Some of the stairways were pretty narrow and made you duck -- so it was kind of hard to maneuver with a toddler. Glad we had the stroller, but we ended up parking it a lot or we couldn't have gone in half of the places on the ship.
There were all kinds of planes on board you could go in and look at, as well as fun demo stuff set up just for kids.
It was such a beautiful day...
...but really windy up on deck. Lily's ponytails were blowing like crazy!
She didn't much like that.
But she really had fun exploring the Midway. It's just fun going somewhere new and different together!
Who's steering this thing?
