After Disneyland we stayed a couple of nights in Malibu and visited the Natural History Museum and the Getty Museums in L.A. None of which we had ever been to before. The Natural History Museum was pretty awesome - some amazing animal scenes! So much artistic skill went into putting those together. Unfortunately it was hard to get good pictures in there because of the dim lighting, but here are a few photos we took:

Unfortunately, the thing we will probably remember most about our trip to the Natural History Museum is Lily's run in with an elevator door. She is notorious for getting distracted and not watching where she is going. She ran really hard into a closing elevator door. We thought she was good, because she was clutching her mouth and all looked ok, and she stopped crying...but when we got outside to the Butterfly exhibit her mouse ears slipped back to reveal a huge dark bump on her forehead! I was really worried. We went back up and got her some ice and she was totally fine. I am constantly amazed by how resilient kids are!

The hotel was kind of a disappointment, but we made the most of it. We will know a few extra questions to ask next time we make hotel reservations.
We planned on going to the beach our last day in Malibu, but the morning started out so foggy we headed back into L.A. to visit the Getty instead.

| The next day at the Getty - not tired of her mouse ears yet! |
Our attempt to get a 3-year old to cooperate for pictures with us:
What a beautiful place! Mike said the Getty was his favorite part of our vacation. I guess it was a good thing it was a foggy morning in Malibu!

| Reading stories on the replica Princess bed in the family room - loved this because Lily wanted to get on the real thing. |
The Beach at Malibu later that afternoon:
The beaches were not at all crowded and so beautiful, but it was sort of windy and chilly too, so we mostly played in the sand. I did ask Mike to take some pictures of me, but I didn't like any of them, so just trust me - I was there :)

Well, that was our little summer getaway! It was nice to get away, but honestly even nicer to come home!
